The Rescue Assaulted

Greetings, this was my entry for the Uplift Universe challenge. When I looked at it again, I find it really lacking in a lot of areas. Especially after I've bought and used the Spyder3 Elite Color Calibrator device. The resulting colour is quite off and not as I originally intended. So I revised it again with some extra lighting and tweaking, adding the forgotten 'lens flare' touch and some overall noise effect.

I had a good time interacting with fellow participants on this challenge and learning something in the process. Thank you to all who took the time to discuss and share your honest feedback with me.

Now I wonder what the next challenge's theme will be like!

I did this painting as a fun personal portfolio piece. I studied plenty of water and waves references from a surfing magazine. The creature is a cross between a dog and a bird hence the name "Gryphterrier". The difference between the Gryphterrier and the Gryphon is that it doesn't have wings! At least for now.

They both were trying to swim across the dangerous waters but were ambushed by those ferocious red eyed monster piranhas!

Done completely in Photoshop. Thank you for viewing.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Greetings Cgtalkers, this piece is just for fun as well as a fan piece. I saw the original US cover art for the last Harry Potter book http://www.hpana-media.com/Books/HP...es/US_Cover.jpg and I saw some potential in the concept, so I tried to come up with my own reimagining.

Hope you enjoy the work!

Runaway Sanctuary

'Runaway Sanctuary' refers to the Lion-Dog statue that becomes magically alive to rescue the royals from danger within the Imperial City. In this scene, it is trying to rescue the royal family from the mysterious Octodragon that appears from nowhere, hellbent on destroying the city. Note: This is not based on any actual Chinese myth, but just a product of my free roaming imagination that likes to toy around with Chinese culture.
Done with Photoshop. 11500 by 9000 px 400dpi. 1gb file size. Less than 2 weeks on and off to complete.

No Peace Within, The Journey Begins

This is my entry for the cgchallenge. Its been a fun experience and I learned alot from the rest of you, fellow cgchallengers as well!

No Peace Within

I have committed the greatest and vilest of sin:
I have brutally tortured and murdered my kin.
My being is stained with their blood under my skin,
And my soul will not rest for I have no peace within.

A giant knife carries me through the sea of blood,
Many dead hands push me past the sickening flood.
I am taken to a place built on the bodies of my kin,
They brought me there for I have no peace within.

I tried to resist with the knife in my bloodstained hand,
The corpses of my family persuading me to land,
While crows mock me to wear my dignity thin,
My heart is already broken for I have no peace within.

I know I am here for all the things I have done,
I have come here to revisit my crimes one by one.
They are waiting for answers to redeem me for my sin,
Lest I fail, I shall never have any peace within…

This is a story about a boy who murdered his whole family. He bordered on insanity and to save him, the ghosts of his family whom he killed, brought him to this strange world made up of their own corpses. There, he will revisit his past and its connection to his crimes in order to solve the question of his intention to kill each member of the family. Along the way he will face his own demons and his journey to salvation is only beginning.

Lotus Favour

(Image updated- Sept 11)
In the Great Lotus Lake where giant celestial lotus plants lived, there was a deity in the form of the lotus seed pod, with eyeballs in place of seed fruits. The eye pods of the lotus deity were said to grant its eaters either the gift of prophecy or immortality. However, the eye pods can never be replenished. It always lost some of its eye pods when they fell into the deep lake, where greedy humans can steal them easily to be used for their own purposes. So whoever finds and return them to their rightful owner will gain in return a special 'Lotus Favour'. (Just another one of my own stories)
11500 x 9000px, 400dpi. Photoshop.

The Celestial Fishermen

The Celestial Fishermen was originally called 'Nightmare Hunter and Dream Rider' before I decided that the latter sounded too corny.
A short background on my painting: The Dragonshark loves to eat big flying goldfishes or all kinds. The two celestial fishermen decided to catch one to make Heavenly Shark's Fin soup to appease their heavenly masters. The young one has the power to summon ethereal goldfishes to become his steads which becomes the ultimate bait for the Dragonshark. The older one has superhuman strength to catch the Dragonshark with merely a small net and feeble-looking wooden boat. Here you can see them in action.
Silly story, I know, but fun to paint nonetheless. I used Photoshop. Constructive critiques and comments are very much welcomed!
Thanks for looking.
Here's the bigger version.
